Delhi Tourism Information and Delhi Tourist Places

The political capital of India, Delhi, makes up one of the cornerstones of the golden triangle in the country’s north. Finding its genesis in the great Indian epic the Mahabharata, as Indraprastha, Capital of the Pandava princes, today the city has transformed itself into a new incarnation. Reflecting the many colors and flavors of India’s eclectic composition, contemporary Delhi is one where you will be inspired, amazed, fascinated and impressed at every corner.

One of the most amazing aspects of Delhi is the obvious and tangible visibility of its past. Despite rapid urbanization, large portions of the city can still be described as archaeological treasures and heritage sites, out of which 1300 monuments are officially listed as important The reason for this is that between the 13th an 17th centuries several dynasties established their rule in different parts of Delhi, all of them adding to the complex and rich history that it offers.

Facing foreign conquerors, colonial oppression, nationalistic fervor, independence and a post-independence transformation, Delhi has seen it all for many centuries passed, and this is visible in its present-day image. Each of these diverse elements brought by people from a variety of places and backgrounds merged here to create the incredibly rich cultural fabric of architecture, food, dress, language and music that it is known by today.

While the basic essence of Delhi is definitely cosmopolitan, Indians are basically a religious people and they observe their own sets of religious traditions and rituals with full faith. Due to this the city has many places of worship belonging to every religion, and the best part is that while maintaining their own faith people extend the same respect and regard to others religions as well.

Be it the vast intricately-carved sanctums of the Hindu temples that call for spiritual growth, the quiet peace and tranquility of the Lotus Temple of Bahai faith that symbolizes equality and brotherhood, the beautifully designed onion domes and elegant minarets of the Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India, the exquisite Church of the Sacred Heart that preaches love and forgiveness, or the Gurdwara Bangla Sahib dedicated to the eighth Guru Harkrishen, Delhi is full of religious places of worship that symbolize all that is good in God and underline the basic similarity of all faiths.

In addition to this the city is the perfect mix of the old and the new. From the colonial pillars of Connaught Place to the lanes of Chandni Chawk and the malls of South Extesion, you will find discover a whole range of experiences here. Delhi is also a paradise for shopping, eating and sight-seeing. The main languages spoken in Delhi are Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, and English. The climate here is of extremes and the best time to visit is either in February-March or between October and December.

A combination of complexities, beauty, diversity and dynamism, Delhi, Capital of the world’s largest democracy is truly a place where thousands of years of history meet the present in a contemporary and unique avatar.
